BALANGA CITY — A former commanding officer of the dismantled Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG) of the New People’s Army surrendered to the 69th Infantry “Cougar” Battalion of Philippine Army Advance Command Post (ACP) in Barangay Camacho here on Sept. 7.

Lt. Col. Sonny Dungca, head of the 69IB said alias “Warren,” 48, of  Samal, Bataan, denounced his affiliation with the communist terrorist group and returned to the fold of the law through their peace, law enforcement, and development support (PLEDS) operations with counterparts from the regional and provincial intelligence units,  Samal Municipal Police Station, 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of Bataan, police provincial office and other government units and agencies in Bataan.

Warren said he had been evading government troops for years before deciding to embrace peace and be reunited with his family for a peaceful life. He surrendered M653 rifle along with one short and two long magazines containing 55 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one M73 hand grenade, one command detonating explosive, one blasting cap, and a 67 centimeters of detonating cord.

Dungca commended the former rebel’s courage in abandoning armed conflict and attributed this achievement to the effective execution of the troops on the ground, particularly in the recently conducted PLEDS operations in Bataan.

This affirms the commitment of government forces to support the local government in addressing internal security threats and achieving lasting peace in the area, Dungca noted.

The province of Bataan was recently declared to be in a “state of stable peace and security.

The 69IB said the former rebel will be included in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP), which offers livelihood assistance and security guarantees to those who choose to reintegrate into society. With PR/Photos: 69IB
