CABANATUAN CITY – Police arrested a former town councillor and his nephew during a buy-bust operation in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija Saturday.
Nueva Ecija police director, Senior Supt. Crizaldo Nieves, identifi ed the suspects as Manuelito Siwa, 58, former president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and ex-offi cio member of the town council of San Leonardo and Darwin de Guzman, 19, both of Barangay Nieves in that town.
The two were detained at the municipal police stockade. No bail was recommended for their provisional liberty.
Chief Inspector Renato Morales, chief of San Leonardo police, said the two reportedly yielded 18 sachets of metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu amounting to P56,000 at the time of their arrest in Barangay San Anton.
Siwa’s involvement in the illegal drugs trade was tipped off by a civilian informant according to Morales. The two were charged for violations of Sections 5, 11 and 12, Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Law before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
