SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija — A former three-term village councilman was gunned down by riding-in-tandem men in Barangay Mabangnan here at about 7 a.m. Friday.
The victim was identified as Luisito Reyes, 48, resident of Barangay Mallorca this municipality.
Investigation showed the victim was driving an owner-type jeep (TKK 634) when fired upon by the suspects on board a single motorcycle. He died on the spot.
At least 13 empty shells from .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
George Dizon, 65, a longtime friend of Reyes and fellow former village councilor, said the victim has been very busy in organizing supporters for a certain local candidate.
“Nawalan ako ng kasama. Kaibiganko yan,” said Reyes as he appealed for the early solution of the crime.
“Sana ay mabigyan ng kalutasan ang kanyang pagkamatay nang mabigyan ng hustisya ang nangyari sa kanya,” he said.
