Ex-cop in drug trade resists arrest, dead in shootout with lawmen

    MARIVELES, Bataan- A dismissed police officer allegedly engaged in illegal drug activities and gun-running died after he resisted arrest and engaged lawmen in a shoot-out in this town Wednesday afternoon.

    In a report to Senior Supt. Benjamin Silo, Jr., Bataan provincial director, Supt. Crizaldy Conde, Mariveles police chief, identifi ed the fatality as former P03 Alpasel Hamsa of Barangay Camaya, Mariveles.

    The suspect was the subject of a search warrant issued by a Regional Trial Court in Bataan for alleged violation of the comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and illegal possession of fi rearms.

    Conde said that apprehending offi cers were approaching the house of Hamsa when the victim drew his .45 handgun and fired at the direction of the police offi cers but missed.

    This prompted the police offi cers to fire back, hitting Hamsa in diff erent parts of the body that caused his death.

    Scene of the Crime Operatives and police investigators recovered from the crime scene a .45 pistol with live ammunitions, empty shells and three sachets containing shabu.

    Hamsa became the 15th fatality in drug-related shoot-outs with police in Bataan this month.
