ORANI, Bataan – Former Congressman Antonino “Tony” Pascual Roman, Jr., 74, of this town, died on Wednesday morning at the Makati Medical Center due to emphysema with heart complications.
He represented Bataan’s 1st District in the 12th Congress from 2001-2004. Roman was also a member of the Batasang Pambansa and served as deputy finance minister under Finance Minister Cesar Virata during the administration of the late Pres. Marcos.
He last held the position of Secretary of Presidential Legislative Liaison Office under Pres. Aquino. He is the husband of incumbent Congresswoman Herminia B. Roman, now on her last term. Antonino left behind four children: Renato Marcelino Roman, a medical doctor; Geraldine Roman, a journalist; Antonino Roman III,
a lawyer; and Regina Wagan Cruz, a freelance artist.
In a message Felicito C. Payumo, former chair of the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) and three-term congressman of Bataan’s 1st District, condoled with the family of Roman.
“The passing away of former Congressman Tony Roman is a great loss to Bataan that he had served well.
Although we were politically on the opposite sides, I still have high esteem for him,” Payumo said.
