Ex-AFP chief steps into Clark with exports worth $594-M

    CLARK FREEPORT – Pres. Aquino’s former Armed Forces chief of staff set foot as chairman and officer-in-charge of the state-owned Clark Development Corp. (CDC) with Freeport investors reporting exports higher so far this year than those in the first two months of 2011.

    The CDC’s marketing department reported that investors here moved some $594.2 million worth of exports last January and February. In the same period last year, investors here reported exports worth only $244.3 million.

    The report was presented to CDC chairman and officer-in-charge Eduardo Oban Jr. who assumed post early April after Felipe Remollo resigned from the post he occupied for a year. Oban retired as Armed Forces chief of staff in December last year.

    The CDC marketing department noted that last January, Korean firm Phoenix Semiconductor Philippines Corp. (PSPC), a semi-conductor company, led other firms, reporting exports worth $102.1 million.

    In January, Japanese firm Nanox Philippines, Inc. placed second with more than $72.9 million, but last February, it become the top exporter with more than $118 million worth of exports. Korea’s PSPC fell to number two in February with $96 million.

    The CDC also noted other top exporters from this Freeport in the first two months of this year, naming Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. with exports worth $54.3 million; Lhuen Thai Philippines (LNT) with $30.2 million, and ; Hld Clark Steel Pipe Co. Inc. with $19.5 million; SMK with $12 million.
