MABALACAT, Pampanga – The ill-effects of illegal drugs exposed and condemned at the recent symposium in Barangay San Francisco here attended by Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales.

At least seven villages – San Francisco, Poblacion, Mabiga, Camachilles, Sto. Rosario, Mangalit and Sta. Ines – and their leaders joined the anti-illegal drugs symposium.

“The ‘evils of drugs’ was conveyed once again to the people, especially the youth. We must fight it all the way before it’s too late,” said San Francisco Village Chief Marcelino “Boy” Cruz, who was cited by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for his no-nonsense crusade against illegal drugs.

“We have reached a consensus that we will work as a team to drastically limit its penetration in our society,” added Cruz.

Morales, for his part, urged the village leaders to help the police and government stop the drug menance. He added that “we could not do it alone to beat drugs.”

Morales also said his office had assisted drug dependents by bringing them to the drug rehabiliation center in nearby Magalang.

Officials of the Central Luzon Drug Rehabiliation Center (CLDRC) in Magalang led by Major Dindo Laguda also graced the symposium.

“Our office helps the families of drug dependents victims pay for the fee at the CLDRC to ensure that they will finish the program,” said Morales.

In interviews with other village leaders, they said “having a drug addict in a family is the worst problem one could have.” They added that “drug addicts are walking time bombs waiting to explode anytime.”

Morales and village officials are set to hold a series of drugs symposium in the first class municipality. The first leg was held in Barangay Mamatitang earlier this month. The symposium at the village of Cruz was the second leg.
