CABANATUAN CITY – An initiative of a mall chain to establish free charging stations for electronic vehicles (EVs) earned praises from a ranking environment officials here.
Engr. Artemio Almazan, chief of the community environment and natural resources office, hailed the efforts to promote a safe and healthy environment for the people during the opening of a free-charging station at the SM Megacenter here on Nov. 7.
Keldrin Wy, assistant mall manager, said the project was part of the SM’s initiative of “green movement and of SM group’s commitment to help make planet greener through programs like this.”
The launch of SM Megacenter’s free EV station, Wy said, was also in support of the recently passed EV Law that aims to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuels and gradual shifting to renewable sources of energy.
“We are glad to share that aside from the free charging service in the station we will soon reward our eco warriors by giving customers our own EV freebies and bills from our partner tenants who will support the SM green movement,” added Wy.
“Sana nga dumami pa ‘yung electric vehicle stations,” said Almazan, noting that EVs free the people of pollution brought by carbon dioxide. “Nakababawas din ito ng noise pollution.”
It would be best, he said, if tricycles also converted to electric-powered.
“Maganda ‘yung ginagawa of ng SM na naglalagay na sila ng mga electric charging stations,” he noted, adding that SM City Cabanatuan has already established its own. Photos: Armand Galang
