SAMAL, Bataan: The end of the campaign period for national and local elections was met with rejoicing from candidates and supporters here Saturday, May 10.
A group of candidates for municipal councilors, vice mayor and mayor in Samal and provincial board members, vice governor and governor in Bataan and congressmen in three congressional districts held their miting de avance that lasted until evening.
A long convoy of vehicles and floats made the rounds of Samal with honking horns, campaign jingles, drums while supporters of re-electionist Mayor Alex Acuzar lined the streets danced and shouted as candidates passed by.
Candidates seemed not to tire waving and shaking hands with supporters who were also in high spirits in greeting the passing candidates.
Reports showed that Bataan is ready for voting on May 12. The province of 11 towns and one city with 237 barangays has 586,044 registered voters. It has three congressional districts.
The mayoral candidates in Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Orani and Balanga City have no opponents. Candidates for congressmen in the first and second districts are also running unopposed.
