CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Education stakeholders in the city are set to convene here on Aug. 22-23 for the CSFP Education Summit 2024 with the theme “Validating EDCOM 2 Findings: Towards an Inclusive and Responsive Education System.”

As the theme indicates, the summit will focus on the validation of the Year One Report of the 2nd Congressional Commission on Education titled “Miseducation: The Failed System of Philippine Education” released in January this year.

In an executive order, Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag directed the city’s multi-sectoral governance council to convene concerned city hall offices and all stakeholders in the education sector in the city, for that purpose.

“The City of San Fernando recognizes the importance of education and its impact on the development and future of its citizens, and as such, it is imperative to assess the relevance and applicability of the EDCOM 2 findings and recommendations within the city’s education system,” the EO cited as a premise for the scheduled summit.

Aside from reviewing the EDCOM 2 findings, the summit is also directed to “analyze the current educational landscape in San Fernando, identify specific challenges and opportunities within the local education sector, determine the need for education reform initiatives at the local level, and foster collaboration and dialog among stakeholders to improve education outcomes.”

Some 350 participants from local educational institutions, parents, students, local government officials, and concerned government agencies are expected to attend the summit.

A comprehensive report detailing the discussions, conclusions and recommendations reached during the summit will be forwarded to the Office of the Mayor thereafter for appropriate action.

Engaging as summit focal persons are chair Dr. Lou Javier and vice chair Sonia Soto of the multi-sectoral governance council; Emilie E. Laxina, supervising administrative officer at the City College of San Fernando; Karl Alfon Sta. Cruz, CSFP-Early Childhood Care and Development Program coordinator.

Department of Education-Region 3 OIC director Dr. Ronnie Mallari will also play a principal role in the summit. Punto News Team
