ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan has urged all 33 barangay captains here to properly use the Internal Revue Allotment (IRA) funds allotted to their respective barangays.

“Being the frontliners in the basic delivery of basic services, always be ready to assist your constituents in all aspects of public service,” said Pamintuan during the oath-taking of new officers of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) on Wednesday.

The mayor congratulated and reminded them “to buckle down to work and not just waste the trust and mandate given to you by your constituents.”

He also urged them to give importance to their respective councilmen and not take them for granted.

Meanwhile, ABC president Joseph Dimapilis of Pulung Maragul vowed to be the bridge of barangay captains to the mayor. “All village chiefs will be given support regardless of their political background.”

Dimapilis said he and Pamintuan had agreed to “set aside politics for the sake of public service.”

“Mayor Ed is a very sensible man and he knows the importance of supporting the village chiefs’ projects to push for progress,” said Dimapilis, 35, one of the youngest barangay captains in Pampanga.

A longtime friend and political ally of Pamintuan, Dimapilis became village chief early last year following the murder of Pulung Maragul Barangay Captain Play Cayanan. He won with a wide margin in the elections last May.

Sto. Cristo Barangay Captain Efren De La Cruz is the vice president of the ABC. He was a former ABC president during the time of then mayor and now Pampanga First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.

The other ABC officers are: Noemi Ocampo of Margot, auditor; Alma Mercado of Tabun; Bernardo Santos of Pulung Bulu, PROs; Romeo Nunag of Sapa Libutad, secretary; and Ceferino Nunag of Mining, Erna Bagang of Salapungan, Rodolfo Ocampo III of San Jose, Domingo Castro of Capaya, and Mario Manialong of Sapang Bato, board of directors.
