ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo “Ed” Pamintuan announced yesterday that he is in search of new tourism officer as the city government focused its attention on tourism.
In an interview, Pamintuan said the officer will head the new tourism council. He added that it will be patterned after the successful tourism council of Cebu City.
“The head will not be a political appointee. He or she will have a fixed term. Dedication and expertise will be of premiere consideration,” said Pamintuan. He added that the new head of the Angeles City Tourism Council should be a native of this city.
“Tourism encompasses everything. You need to have peace and order, development, progress, clean environment and what have you in order to attract tourists,” said the 62-year-old mayor.
”Honestly, I am to blame for nothing significant happened at the tourism office since I assumed my post,” he added.
Pamintuan said he had focused his attention over the past seven months on the millions of debts incurred by the previous administration of Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno.
He added that “the city government is running smoothly now and our focus shifts to tourism.”
Pamintuan said he will visit Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama shortly after the latter arrives from the USA late March.
He said he was impressed by the Cebu tourism council as it put Cebu “among the most desired tourist destinations not just in the country but in the whole world.”
Pamintuan said the website of the Cebu tourism office “is a one-stop shop” where the tourists are provided for what they need and what to know about the place.
