ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan described as “smooth as silk” the opening of classes here yesterday, noting that there were traffic congestions in some areas near public and private schools.

In an interview over the phone, Pamintuan said “everything was in place and in order” with the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP), traffic enforcement agency, barangay leaders and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Pamintuan said the traffic congestions here had been noted by City Police Director Senior Supt. Roldolfo Recomono Jr.

Recomono told Punto that “the traffic congestion could be caused by the high volume of vehicles which is normal during opening of classes.”

But he stressed that “the traffic was manageable and moving.”

Recomono also added that he had assigned cops in public schools to help parents and school officials in ensuring the safety of students.

“I encourage people to ask police assistance if they have problems related to the school’s opening,” said Recomono.

In a report to Pamintuan, City Schools Division Superintendent Victoria Aguas said all schools here are ready for the opening of classes.

In terms of physical facilities, she said Brigada Eskwela helped in the cleaning and repairing of old school buildings.

“We have appointed new teachers with new items allotted for Angeles with our congressman’s (Lazatin) support for allocation of DepEd items,” Aguas said.

“We are awaiting the arrival of books from DepEd Central office. We might not be able to completely address all the needs but definitely, we are ready for the new school year with your continued support,” Aguas said.
