ANGELES CITY – “Ang sabi nila nagpaparamdam daw ako. Para sa mga patay lang ‘yun (They say I want to make my presence felt. That’s only for the dead).”
Thus said Subic Clark Alliance for Development Council (SCADC) Chairman Edgardo “Ed” Pamintuan at the start of his speech to open the “Isangguni sa Bayan” forum here on Friday participated in by the public school teachers of Angeles City.
Pamintuan was taking light the rumors and reports that he is poised to make a political comeback in 2010 by running for mayor in this city.
A former two-term city mayor, Pamintuan refused to categorically state if he would seek his old post against Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno and at least two other aspirants.
But a former barangay captain here said “it’s sure he will run for mayor.” He added that “the secretary is just finishing some projects of the government before making the announcement.”
“Actions speak louder than words,” added the village chief.
The “Isangguni” forum, the second that Pamintuan held here, is itself seen as a way for him to “test the politicalwaters.”
The first forum, held some weeks ago at the Angeles City Library, was participated in by barangay chairmen and kagawads of Angeles City, Magalang and Mabalacat which comprise the first district of Pampanga.
At the start of the opening of classes last month, streamers of Pamintuan welcoming students and enjoining them with his signature slogan – “Agyu yu yan (You can do it)” – were displayed in many parts of the city, prominently on public places.
Supporters of Pamintuan said “Ed is thinking of either running for mayor or congressman of the first district.”
But they added that “Pamintuan is now more bent on running for mayor.”
Pamintuan and the so-called “Good News Team” just came from the United States of America to promote the projects of the government. He added that they had to go around the country and other parts of the world to show that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had “done wonders for us and not otherwise.”
“If we have been given our fair share on national broad sheets newspapers we would not have done this forum,” said Pamintuan.
Among the other likely opponents of Pamintuan are Balibago Barangay Captain Tony Mamac and Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting.
