SAMAL, Bataan: The local government here on Monday announced that an economic zone as an extension/expansion of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) is soon to rise in this agricultural town.
Mayor Alexander Acuzar said groundbreaking of the Samal – High Tech Global Cement Corporation (HTGCC) Ecozone was held in an area located in Tabing Ilog and Lalawigan, two barangays in Samal.
The mayor, HTGGC chief executive officer Ferdinand Mercado and Kelvin Rodriguez, representing AFAB administrator Emmanuel Pineda, led in the groundbreaking ceremony.
Acuzar with the approval of AFAB wanted the Samal ecozone to operate industrial and leisure companies. He assured that no cement plant will be established in the area.
The mayor said the soon-to-open Samal Skills Development & Training Center with the assistance of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will be of big help in training workers for the ecozone.
HTGCC and AFAB officials promised full support to the ecozone and the municipality of Samal.
Members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Samal led by Vice Mayor Ronnie Ortiguerra as well as officials of the two barangays attended the groundbreaking rite.
Provincial Board member Tony Roman represented 1st district Rep. Geraldine Roman while Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia III and Vice Gov. Cris Garcia sent their representatives.
Rodriguez said RA 1153 has granted AFAB to operate, extend and expand not only in the Freeport Area of Bataan in Mariveles but to the rest of the 10 towns and one city in Bataan.
“Malaking tulong ito dahil mailalapit na ang mga trabaho sa bawat Bataeño sa pamamag-itan ng pagtatayo ng mga industrial at ecozone sa bawat bayan ng Bataan,” he said.
