SANTA ROSA, Nueva Ecija – The families of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) sought the help of the national government to have the latter saved from possible execution.
One of the OFWs was identified as Myrna San Pedro from barangay Sto. Rosario here who was reported to have been sentenced to death by the Chinese Court for alleged drug peddling.
But her son, Emyr Francis, 25, has asked the help of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III saying his mother may be a victim of illegal drugs syndicates.
“Hindi kami makapaniwala na magagawa niya iyon. Malamang siya ay isang biktima na ginamit ng hindi niya nalalaman,” Emyr said.
He said they never stop trying to get information about their mother since their last chat in April 2007. However, they received news that Myrna was among the five OFWs in China’s death row.
“The long wait for any information on her whereabouts has been so hard for all of us,” the OFW’s son said. “And knowing that she is sentenced to die through firing squad is even unthinkable,” he stressed.
His father, Ernesto, has been working hard coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) since the news broke, he said.
Meanwhile, Emelita San Juan, 49, of Barangay San Gregorio, also of this municipality, said her daughter identified as Criselda San Juan, 31, was employed by an unidentified Manila-based Nigerian national to transport black diamond in different countries sometime in 2009.
After one successful trip to Laos, her daughter texted her on June 30, 2009 saying she is leaving Laos for China where she would stay for days.
But that was the last message she received from Criselda and all efforts to contact her afterwards failed.
“I have the strong feeling that she’s alive. Maybe jailed,” the mother said.
Criselda had her first successful overseas work as call center agent in Dubai for four years.
But with two children, an 8-year-old girl and 1-year-old boy, forced Criselda to work abroad.
“She was promised P100,000 per trip,” Emelita said. She identified the recruiter as a certain Lanie of Pasig City.
