QUEZON CITY — The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) on Tuesday assured the public that the national government is prepared for any scenario on the COVID-19 situation this Christmas.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar lauded the national government’s preparedness and response to control the transmission of COVID-19, especially during the Holiday season, as it turned over the Quezon Institute Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. Modular Hospital and Dormitory recently.

“This completion is part of our final push. We know malapit na po ang vaccine. But nevertheless, we must be prepared for the scenario kaya pinilit talaga naming matapos itong COVID-19 facility before Christmas [This completion is part of our final push. We know that the vaccine is coming soon. Nevertheless, we must be prepared for the scenario so we did everything to complete this COVID-19 facility before Christmas,” Sec. Villar said.

Located within the Quezon Institute compound in Quezon City and to be managed by the medical teams of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital, the facility has two units of modular hospitals with 44-bed capacity intended for treating moderate and severe COVID-19 patients. It also has two units of dormitories with 64 beds for medical personnel manning the facility during this Holiday season.

Moreover, it is equipped with copper tube for oxygen and tanks, a separate nursing station, equipment laboratory, pantry, storage, closed-circuit television (CCTV) lines, monitoring board, and an area for donning and removing personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure health and safety of our medical frontliners.

Officials from the NTF Against COVID-19 and the IATF-EID gave the media a tour of the newly opened modular hospital intended to treat and care for moderate and severe COVID-19 patients.

“The President who is still working as hard as 24/7 nagtatrabaho just to make sure that we are prepared for any scenario. Itong pasilidad ay sana po ay ipinagdarasal po naming hindi na kailangang gamitin but nevertheless, we in government under the orders of President Duterte, we are prepared for any possible scenario [The President is still working hard 24/7 just to make sure that we are prepared for any scenario. This facility, we hope, and we pray, will not be needed anymore. Nevertheless, we in the government, under the orders of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, are prepared for any possible scenario],” Sec. Villar added.

Meanwhile, NTF Deputy Chief Implementer Secretary Vince B. Dizon reminded everyone to take caution and not to get complacent this Christmas about the risk of COVID-19.

“Ang problema dito sa COVID, hindi pa rin siya nawawala. Kahit napakarami na ng binaba ng mga kaso simula ‘nung middle part of this year, eh alam nating nandyan pa rin siya. At ang pinakamasamang mangyayari sa atin ay ‘yung magiging kampante na tayo [The problem with COVID-19, it is still here. Even if the number of cases has gone down since the middle part of this year, we know that it is still here. And the worst thing that can happen to us is to be camplacent],” Sec. Dizon said.

DOH Undersecretary Leopoldo J. Vega stressed that the modular hospital facility will serve as a model for the whole country to prepare for any COVID-19 situation.

“If we do not take care of critical and severe cases, there will be an increase in our case fatality. It has to be there, the proper care and management of the severe and critical must be operational,” said Usec. Vega.
