BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Ryan de Leon, 27, jobless, received on Monday P100,000 cash from a Dutchman for finding the latter’s Buddha necklace.

“I kept my word that I will give a reward of P100,000 to whoever finds my necklace,” Erick Jansen of The Netherlands said.

Jansen said his Buddha necklace was snatched from him Sunday evening at the busy road in barangay Ibayo, here.

The snatchers apparently threw the necklace at a grassy portion of the road near the ricefield  when they saw that the foreigner and some people were running after them.

The foreigner gave P50,000 in advance and the remaining P50,000 to be completed on Friday.

“Tumulong lang ako sa paghahanap dahil sinabi ng asawa ni Mr. Jansen na napakahalaga ng necklace sa kanyang asawa kaya nang makita ko sa damuhan ay agad kong ibinigay sa kanya,” said the 27 year-old De Leon who was living with his parents near the road where the snatching took place.

Jansen said that at about 8:00 p.m., he was walking with his wife at the road towards the passenger terminal after eating at a fast food chain in Balanga. Suddenly, two men came from behind and hit him on the neck and then snatched the necklace he was wearing.

“It was given to me by a monk in Thailand and has been in my possession for more than 10 years. It is very important to me, priceless, that I can’t sleep without it,” he said.

The foreigner arrived in the country three weeks ago and has been staying with his wife in Orani town in Bataan.
