TARLAC CITY (PIA) — A total of 27 residents of Camiling, Tarlac completed the Banana Chips Making Skills Training of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The beneficiaries are members of the Rural Improvement Club of Barangay Bancay 1st.
DTI OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo stated that a new skill was introduced to the club members to assist them in generating another source of income using readily available resources in their town.
“Bananas are readily available in their area. They are affordable and easy to prepare. This new learning, if utilized, can provide them with an alternative means of earning a living,” she said.
The activity is part of the agency’s thrust to help Tarlaqueños in starting, developing and boosting their business which could create more job opportunities, and spur economic activity in the province.
Margielyn Mejia, one of the participants, stressed that she looks forward to seeing the program reach and teach more people on entrepreneurship.
“We have gained more knowledge about livelihood opportunities for our families. This is a great program. We hope that it continues so that every citizen can benefit from it,” Mejia added.
During the activity, Business Counselor Angelie Mikka Aquino demonstrated the process of banana chips making, proper packaging and labeling.
She also shared that the Negosyo Center offers different services to help micro, small and medium enterprises in business development. (CLJD/TJBM, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
