SANTA IGNACIA, TARLAC – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tarlac, through the Negosyo Center Santa Ignacia, and in collaboration with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Poblacion West, conducted a skills training on confectionery product making for 30 young individuals from the said barangay.

OIC Provincial Director Florencia Balilo said, the activity aimed to equip the participants with basic confectionery-making skills that could be developed into a potential source of income.

“At DTI, we offer not just skills but possibilities.  We see great potential in our youth, and by introducing accessible livelihood options, we help them realize they could start within their reach and eventually succeed,” she said.

The speaker, Business Counselor Angelie Mikka Aquino from the Negosyo Center Camiling, guided the attendees through the process of making pastillas, Turkish delight, and peanut brittle.

Meanwhile, SK Chairman Jhanssen Nardo acknowledged the value of the program in the lives of participants.

“As young individuals, this training is a great opportunity for us to acquire knowledge that we can use not only today but also in the future.  We learned how to make sweets using simple ingredients, and these products can already be sold as a source of income.  For us, this is a first step towards becoming self-reliant and learning how to earn even at a young age,” he said.

The event is part of DTI’s advocacy to equip individuals, especially the youth, with skills that foster self-employment, creativity, and long-term economic empowerment.
