CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Pampanga is way above its targets of completing projects crucial to the creation of more jobs and businesses and ensuring the stable price of prime commodities.
In its regular “Kapihan Sa DTI” forum here on Friday, DTI Provincial Director Leonila Baluyut said they had ensured that more jobs and opportunities were created as mandated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).
“We also monitor the basic goods to prevent unnecessary increase of its prices,” added Baluyut. She was joined by two other DTI officials in the forum – Consumer Welfare and Business Regulation Division Chief Erlinda Pineda and Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Lydia Rivera.
In a report submitted to journalists, Baluyut disclosed that 1,983 people had benefited from business opportunities seminar and skills training programs conducted from February to May this year. At least 25 seminars were held in the province.
The DTI conducted seminars on meat processing, banana chips and spicy dilis making, development of water lily, candle making and flower arrangement.
In the same report, the DTI showed the monitoring of prices in retail and wholesale stores here and other towns in the province. Among those commodities monitored were construction supplies, milk products and canned goods.
Baluyut said they had launched CLEEP to help provide jobs and businesses to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) dismissed by their employers.
