La Union, Philippines—To ensure consumer safety and fair trade practices, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted a rigorous enforcement and monitoring activity in San Fernando, La Union on 11 December 2024.
DTI Region 1 Director Raymond G. Panhon, along with the DTI inspection team from the regional office, visited several business establishments in San Fernando City. The focus of the visit was on businesses selling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), electronic cigarettes (vapes), Christmas lights, and appliances. The aim was to ensure compliance with safety standards, product quality, and fair trade laws.
“As we approach the holiday season, we must prioritize consumer safety and protection. By conducting regular market monitoring activities, we aim to prevent the proliferation of substandard and counterfeit products that may pose risks to public health and safety,” Director Panhon said.
During the inspection, the team meticulously examined product labels, certifications, and pricing to ensure that they adhere to DTI regulations. They also checked for the presence of mandatory safety markings and certifications, particularly for electrical products and LPG appliances.
Director Panhon likewise emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance, urging the public to be discerning and cautious when making purchases, especially during the holiday season. He reminded consumers to look for the Philippine Standard (PS) mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker on products, as these certifications guarantee product quality and safety.
