SAMAL, Bataan — Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) distributed Thursday business starter kits to about 18 identified beneficiaries in Samal town as part of the Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) program.
DTI Provincial Director Nelin Cabahug stressed they are required to develop at least 15 entrepreneurs this year in municipalities belonging to the 4th-6th income class. Samal is the only town in Bataan that falls under this classification.
“This program is the response of DTI on the request of President Duterte to inform residents in far-flung areas of the community on the different programs of the government,” she stressed.
Cabahug added that aside from program funds, Samal Mayor Aida Macalinao and 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman gave financial support for the business development project.
Starter kits include kitchenware, fabrics, raw ingredients, and other materials needed by the beneficiary to start his or her own business. Beneficiaries are residents of barangays Gugo, Palili and Imelda.
Herminia Magto, one of the beneficiaries, received sewing tools and tailoring materials which fits her plan of producing bracelets.
“I am thankful that the DTI has this program which I can use to make bracelets that I can sell in our neighborhood,” Magto said.
DTI Bataan aims to launch the program in all 14 barangays of the town by 2022 targeting at least 70 residents to assist in entrepreneurship. (L- PIA 3
