DTI Bataan to penalize unaccredited repair shops

BALANGA CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) warns all unaccredited service repair shops in Bataan to renew their accreditation or face penalties in accordance with Presidential Decree 1572.

During the Orientation/Briefing on the Rules and Regulations Governing Service Repair Shop Accreditation, DTI Regional Office 3 Adjudication Officer Bing Mon said all enterprise and technical personnel engaged in service and repair shall apply for accreditation with DTI to avoid penalties.

“No such service or repair shop enterprise and technical personnel shall be licensed or permitted to operate in the Philippines for the first time without first being accredited by DTI,” she stressed.

Violators will be penalized with at least PhP500 to 300,000, depending on the range capitalization of the retailer, while wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers and importers may be fined with at least PhP60,000 to 300,000.

“Just an absence of accreditation, you might be penalized with at least Php20,000 if you have a capitalization of Php20,000 to 100,000, so we should be careful,” she explained.

The DTI official also reminded participating owners and mangers of repair shops to renew their accreditation on or before the 31st day of January every year.

“We should always remember that every year, we are responsible for the renewal of our shop accreditation to avoid penalties by visiting the nearest DTI office or Negosyo Center,” Mon added.

Under the Presidential Decree 1572, repair shops covered are motor vehicles; heavy equipment; engines and engineering works; electronics, electrical, air conditioning and refrigeration; medical and dental equipment; and other consumer industrial, electro-mechanical, chemical and gaseous equipment, machinery appliances or devices. – PIA 3
