Paris, France—The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported the remarkable performance of Bicol-based pili nut companies, generating sales of USD 653,970 or PHP 38.45 million at the Salon International de l’Alimentation SIAL.
The exhibit, which ran for five (5) days in France last October 19, featured the four (4) pili nut companies among 7,200 other exhibitors in one of world’s largest and most prestigious food exhibition.
DTI Region 5 Director Dindo Nabol thanked other partner agencies in the successful mission, noting that their collaboration has been instrumental in showcasing pili nut products to a global audience.
The four (4) pili nut companies that joined in the international exhibit are the following: Pili Crush Enterprises; C.O.P. Pili Sweets and Pastries; Phenomenon Group, Inc., and The Rains Delicacies.
Moreover, the Philippine delegation also held an outbound business mission after the exhibit, further enhancing opportunities for collaboration and expansion.
Known for its distinctive creamy flavor and high nutritional value, the pili nut is considered a gem and a super food from the Bicon Region, home of the world-renowned Mayon Volcano that has never failed to amaze local and foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, given the rising trend towards health-conscious products and organic foods, pili nuts, being high in essential nutrients, fit well within this trend. The taste of pili nuts, which was described as buttery with a mild crunch, was well-received by both the locals and foreign nationals as several buyers noted its novelty compared to other nuts like almonds and cashews.
Director Nabol also acknowledged the assistance extended by the Philippine Trade and Investment Office (PTIC) team in Brussels, and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM). END
