CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Central Luzon and Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Central Luzon organized a special orientation on productivity and labor standards for the DTI Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) graduates last June 4, 2021.

In her welcome remarks, DTI Regional Director Leonila T. Baluyut, Vice Chairperson of RTWPB Central Luzon, challenged the graduates to identify what can further be done to improve their businesses as they familiarize themselves with productivity and labor standards.

“We want you to be productive and compliant with regulations and standards because this will improve your respective working systems and less legal troubles for your business,” Regional Director Baluyut said.

Mr. Jerome P. Yanson, RTWPB Central Luzon Board Secretary, discussed the essence of productivity and the benefits of productivity improvement to the workers, employers, customers and economy. “Happy and motivated employees produce quality goods and services,” he reminded participants as he highlighted that human resource is the heart of any productivity improvement effort.

In his discussion of basic labor standards, Mr. Kenneth D. Liza, a former labor inspector, discussed the minimum requirements of existing wage law and other general labor standards for MSMEs to comply with. He emphasized that MSMEs should not be afraid of labor inspectors as they are deployed to help and assist in correcting deficiencies or violations.

DTI Assistant Regional Director Brigida T. Pili concluded the program, noting that workers are the most important resource in a business. She urged the participants to implement their take-aways from the session because the success of an enterprise lies on its employees. Facilitating the event were Mr. Jojo Torres and Ms. Grace Magtoto of DTI Central Luzon.
