DTI-3 concludes 2023 Consumer Welfare Month

City of San Fernando, Pampanga – The Department of Trade and Industry Region Office III (DTI-3) capped off the celebration of the 2022 Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) with a culminating activity last October 24, 2023 at the Waltermart Mall, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “GenS: Generation Sustainable.“

The month of October every year, is declared as Consumer Welfare Month through Proclamation No. 1098 of 1997 by former President Fidel V. Ramos. In celebration, various activities were conducted for this year including consumer welfare webinars, fun runs, zumba, quiz bees, E-poster making, spoken poetry and dulaang pangmamimili.

Among the attendees of the culminating activity are different consumer groups from the provinces, student contestants, teachers, parents and DTI associates.

On behalf of DTI-3 OIC Regional Director Brigida T. Pili, OIC Assistant Regional Director Edna D. Dizon welcomed the attendees. In her message, she emphasized the importance of sustainability in today’s consumer generation.

“Sustainability speaks to our responsibility toward future generations. It reminds us that our actions today have a profound impact on the world we pass on to our children and grandchildren. It underscores the need for sustainability, not just as a buzzword, but as a way of life,” ARD Dizon said.

The highlights of the event include the Spoken Poetry contest for high school students and the Dulaang Pangmamimili competition for consumer organizations in the region. The competitions are centered on this year’s theme: “Gen S: Generation Sustainability.” Gabriel Luis P. Mangune of Caluluan National High School of Tarlac topped the spoken poetry competition. Teodoro Gian Carlo Paraiso of Bajet-Castillo High School in Bulacan and Kim Clarise Nunag of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology placed second and third respectively. Other participants are Sahara Jade Resultay of Luakan National Highschool in Bataan, Ruth Ericka A. Francisco of Santos Ventura National Highschool in Pampanga, and Joshua Mas of Regional Science High School III of Zambales.

The Zambales Consumer Affairs Council bested six other consumer groups in the Dulaang Pangmamimili competition. Nueva Ecija’s Bongabon Consumer Affairs Council placed second while Tarlac Consumer Councils Inc. bagged the third place. Baler Consumer Organization, Orani May Pag-asa Consumer Organization, Bulacan Consumer Affairs-Guiguinto Chapter and Pampanga Consumer Federation Inc. also participated in the competition.

For the Quiz Bee contest which ensued last October 20, Xandrine Avril S. Tungol of Tarlac National High School won first place. Reiz Chie Se C. Lajom of Lydia D. Villangca Trade School in Bulacan came in second while Cena Marielle Mendi of Regional Science High School in Subic Bay Freeport Zone placed third.

DTI-3 extends its gratitude to all those who supported the CWM activities and aspires that through the variety of its programs, the consuming public may be empowered.
