MARIVELES, Bataan – The Department of Social Welfare and Development on Tuesday began its payout of cash assistance to displaced workers at the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) here, the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) announced.
AFAB information officer Hazel Keith Ellorin said more than 7,000 workers of various factories stood to benefit from the DSWD under the program assistance to individuals in crisis situation (AICS).
The applications of more workers are being processed, she added.
Ellorin said that each worker was entitled to P3,000 in cash. Priority under AICS are workers who were displaced, on forced leave and have not received any assistance from the Social Amelioration Program and other livelihood programs of government.
The payout signaled the launching of FABayanihan, a service-oriented initiative of the authority under manager Emmanuel Pineda, that brings together government and private sectors for the common goal of extending help to others by addressing the immediate needs of the community.
She said that the activity was in collaboration with the DSWD, Senator Christopher Lawrence Go, Gov. Albert Garcia and 2nd District Rep. Jose Enrique Garcia III.
Go urged the workers to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease that he said was the solution to end the problem hitting the country.
The senator announced that all the more than 7,000 workers will receive from him a grocery pack each and vitamins. He also held a raffle for 10 bicycles and some rubber shoes for the workers.
