TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – The war against illegal drugs in this first class municipality got a new face with village heads and the youths dancing together with policemen as they called in one voice for “reciprocal responsibility” in the fight that has been claiming lives of suspected peddlers.

Called “Kapulisan, Kabataan, Kapitan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKKKDAT),” the expanded anti-drugs campaign which also highlights lectures on the ills of illegal substance abuse kicked off coinciding with a career guidance symposium participated in by some 600 senior high school students of the Talavera Senior High School (TSHS) at the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) here Friday afternoon.

Police Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito, town police chief, said they aim to win the trust and cooperation of students in the campaign.

“First of all, mas nagiging well-informed sila sa epekto ng iligal na droga and nararamdaman nila at the same time na ang PNP (Philippine National Police) ay talagang seryoso sa anti-illegal drugs campaign natin,” Desamito said, noting that students have given them a warm response during the launch.

“Nararamdaman nila na malapit, kaibigan ang pulis, huwag silang matakot, makiisa, magkaroon ng pakikipaalam, ‘yun ngang doctrine of reciprocal responsibility and spirit of volunteerism,” she said.

Also, part of the program was introduction of the PNP’s history as well as its mission and vision. There was also a short video showing the violent acts of terrorism.

The community dancing was led by mascots “Mamang Pulis” and “ Aling Pulis” to the tunes of “Kiss Me, Kiss Me,” “Dahil Sayo,” and “Budots”.

“Para po lahat ng kabataan natin ay umiwas sa ipinagbabawal na gamot at magkaroon po sila ng magandang kinabukasan,” said barangay chair Myla Ildefonso of Barangay Mamandil here. She was accompanied by several other village heads.
