CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the rehabilitation and widening of the 30-lineal meter Marimla Bridge along Lubao Diversion Road in Pampanga.

The P43.4-million project, funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2022, was implemented to ensure that the structure could reach its full operational capacity.

DPWH Pampanga 2nd District Engineer Gregorio Audea Jr. explained that road widening projects previously undertaken by the agency have improved mobility along the thoroughfare.

“Over the years, there has been a significant increase in the volume of vehicles passing through the Lubao Diversion Road. Unfortunately, the Marimla Bridge was no longer wide enough to accommodate the traffic load, causing congestion and inconvenience to motorists,” Audea shared.

This prompted DPWH to implement a bridge upgrading project as it also observed gradual deterioration of the structure.

Now, the safety of the motoring public is better ensured, as the structure has been strengthened and two lanes have been added to accommodate the additional traffic load passing through. (CLJD-PIA 3)
