CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) improved a 275-lineal meter section of a local road leading to a public market at barangay Sto Niño in Guagua, Pampanga.
The P9.6-million project was funded under the 2022 national budget and includes construction of drainage canals on both sides.
“Heavy downpours often cause flooding along this particular stretch of road which has become a major problem for residents going to and from the Guagua Public Market which is located near the Pampanga River. With the completion of this project, they no longer have to wade through flood waters,” DPWH Pampanga 2ndDistrict Engineer Gregorio Audea Jr. said.
Barangay Sto. Niño Secretary Janet Lapid shared the previous condition of the road and expressed her gratitude for the completed project.
“Dati kasi yung way doon talagang lubog baha nagbabangka yung mga tao bago sila makalabas papunta ng palengke. We are grateful and thankful dahil pinondohan po itong proyekto na ito through DPWH,” Lapid said.
The road improvement project also enhances connectivity and ease of access for people and vehicles going to the Guagua Public Market to deliver essential goods and other necessities.
“Ngayon happy na po yung mga tao na nanggagaling doon sa Cervantes Road kasi nga hindi na nila kailangan mag bangka if ever man na bumuhos yung malakas na ulan,” Lapid added.
DPWH continues to work on improving the town’s road and bridge infrastructures in support of the government’s goal of improving transport mobility.
Other projects completed by the agency in the municipality include Guagua Infirmary Clinic and a day care center while construction of a two-storey isolation facility is underway.
