TARLAC CITY (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a flood mitigation project in San Clemente, Tarlac.
The 982-lineal meter slope protection with a steel sheet pile foundation was built along the Batacan River in Barangay Pit-ao.
DPWH Tarlac 1st District Engineer Neil Farala said the structure has a 9.10-meter access road.
“It not only provides a vital pathway for residents to reach farms but also designed to protect agricultural produce, including corn, palay, and other root crops,” Farala pressed.
Connecting the riverwall to existing structures will alleviate residents’ safety concerns during the rainy season as it proactively prevents untoward incidents such as severe flooding while safeguarding the livelihood of residents living near the waterway.
P70.2 million was allocated for the structure under the 2023 national budget. (MJSC/CLJD-PIA 3)
