BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 2,339.73-square-meter concrete slope protection project along the Bagac-Mariveles Road (BMR) in Bataan.
The P48.25-million project, funded through the 2023 national budget, improves safety and stability on this vital tertiary route, which serves as a shorter link between Bagac and Mariveles.

DPWH Bataan 3rd District Engineer Maribel Navarro said the structure reinforces a zigzag section of the 44-kilometer BMR in Barangay Malaya, Mariveles, reducing risks of landslides, soil erosion, and slope collapse.
“This project includes a 459-linear-meter drainage canal to manage rainwater and maintain soil stability. The structure’s strong design prevents the slope from shifting, while the canal redirects water to keep it secure,” she explained.
By ensuring a dependable route for goods and services, the project strengthens access to remote communities and supports local livelihoods. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
