BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P47.23-million flood control project in Dinalupihan, Bataan.

The 395-meter structure was constructed along a tributary creek of the Colo River in Barangay Colo.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino emphasized that the completed structure ensures the safety of nearby communities during the rainy season.

“The reinforced concrete flood-mitigating structure on both sides of Barangay Colo Creek was built according to standards, filled, and laid out with rebars,” he stated.

Tolentino furthered that clearing operations were conducted to remove silt and debris and correct the grade and elevation of the creek bed, allowing unobstructed water flow to the Colo River.

Meanwhile, DPWH Bataan Sub (3rd) District Engineer Maribel Navarro highlighted that the project aims to mitigate flooding in residential and agricultural areas.

“This project, built to prevent flooding and reduce damage to crops and properties, stands as a notable development in our continuous effort to enhance public safety against natural disasters,” she emphasized.

Moreover, DPWH Bataan Sub (3rd) OIC-Assistant District Engineer Henry John Morada noted that the infrastructure will contribute to the economic development of the area and improve the standard of living for residents in the village and nearby towns.

“Flood risk management is essential in raising the standard of living and promoting the development of our community. Our office will implement more measures and continue to improve in accordance with our flood risk management master plan,” he added.

Funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act, the project represents the agency’s ongoing efforts to improve public safety against natural disasters in the province. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
