CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P24.6-million multipurpose building at Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng San Jose (KLSJ) in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija.

The 2,493.70-square-meter structure, located in Barangay Sto. Tomas, will serve as a venue for academic and community events.

It will also function as an evacuation center during calamities to strengthen the city’s disaster preparedness.

DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st OIC-District Engineer Jun Vana highlighted the facility’s versatility, noting that its main hall can accommodate about 1,000 people and is equipped with multiple offices and facilities for user convenience.

“Designed with inclusivity, the building features PWD-friendly ramps, a built-in stage with dressing rooms and holding areas, a lobby, an administration office, and well-equipped restrooms with designated PWD cubicles. A control room beside the stage will support event management and technical operations,” Vana furthered.

The project, funded under the 2024 national budget through the Convergence and Special Support Program, also includes mechanical, electrical, janitorial, and storage rooms to ensure smooth facility operations.

The groundbreaking ceremony last February 2025 officially launched the city government’s five-year development plan for KLSJ, which aims to offer programs unavailable at nearby colleges and universities.

The multipurpose building is one of the initial structures in the plan and is part of a broader effort by the local government unit, which is also constructing six more buildings to accommodate future students. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
