TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the construction of a gymnasium at Matingkis Elementary School in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
Implemented by DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineering Office, P3.2 million was allotted for the project which was sourced from the Convergence and Special Support Program of the General Appropriations Act of 2023.
Head Teacher III Rodelito Facun Jr. shared that the gym now serves as a shelter for their 180 students, especially during activities that require a spacious area to accommodate not only the students but also the parents and other visitors during events.
“Ngayon [na mayroon nang gym], komportable na at hindi na pagpapawisan ang ating mga mag-aaral tuwing flag raising ceremony at sa lahat ng extracurricular activities na kailangang isagawa outside the classroom,” Facun elaborated.
The school head also mentioned that in the past, when the barangay gymnasium was unavailable, teachers had to conduct some of their activities in their respective classrooms.
This limited the students’ opportunities to interact with their peers, an integral part of their learning experience. (CLJD-PIA 3)
