CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a P9.6-million drainage project in barangay Magsaysay Sur, Cabanatuan City.
Residents and owners of commercial establishments are now assured that the threat of flooding in their area will be reduced because of this infrastructure.
Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said the project was implemented to protect residents from diseases that may be caused by poor sanitation due to stagnant water.
“Magsaysay Sur is a densely populated community that often experiences flooding, but with the construction of a 629.00 lineal-meter drainage system, water stagnation will be avoided in an area that usually becomes a breeding place for insects that cause diseases such as dengue,” Trinidad explained.
He added that the infrastructure is also needed for the proper drainage of rainwater that often accumulates on the road.
The project also includes the construction of a CHB line canal with reinforced concrete pipe culverts that will help improve the barangay’s sewerage system and better maintain the cleanliness of the environment.
It was implemented under the DPWH Basic Infrastructure Project with funds sourced from the General Appropriations Act of 2022.
