TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a public market at barangay Sto. Niño 3rd in San Jose City.
The P7.8-million multipurpose facility was built to provide a clean and well-organized public market that can be easily accessed by micro entrepreneurs and consumers.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineer Armando Manabat shared that before construction of the building, market vendors sold their wares in makeshift stalls.
The place was muddled and it was difficult to maintain cleanliness.
“Nearby residents will no longer need to spend on tricycle fares as all their daily needs will be easily available at the barangay public market once its operation begins,” he added.
Moreover, Project Engineer Tomasito Duldulao said the 348.6-square meter multipurpose facility has 27 stalls available in the wet section while six commercial spaces will be leased in the dry section.
“The stalls in the wet goods section are divided into three segments – nine stalls for meat vendors; nine stalls for poultry and seafood vendors; and nine for fruit and vegetable vendors,” Duldulao explained.
Each stall in the wet section is equipped with a sink and faucet for water supply.
The drainage system connected to the septic tank is also properly laid and built as proper wastewater management may help reduce any environmental and health issues.
Architect Kaye Ann Olar, on the other hand, emphasized that the building was designed for the fullest convenience and accessibility of consumers.
“The building is equipped with two ramps for persons with disabilities (PWDs). There is also a separate building for comfort rooms designated for men, women, and PWDs. A hand washing station with four taps was likewise provided for the sanitation of marketgoers,” she disclosed.
Barangay officials are currently screening vendors interested in renting a stall or space. (CLJD-PIA 3)
