TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) built a 295-lineal meter flood control structure along Talavera River in barangay Sibut, San Jose City.

Implemented by Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineering Office, the infrastructure seeks to prevent water from entering farmlands and residential areas.

OIC-District Engineer Armando Manabat said the project was implemented to ensure that flood damages to crops and properties in the area are kept to a bare minimum.

The P44-million project was funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act.

“The project also includes the construction of a concrete protection wall with a steel sheet pile foundation, and spur dikes that will help divert floodwaters away from the river banks,” Manabat explained.

Construction began in February this year and was completed ahead of schedule.
