TARLAC CITY (PIA) — About seven equipment that were funded under the Project Municipal Innovation through Science and Technology (MIST) are now producing outputs benefiting Tarlaqueños.

These are the first batch of approved proposals identified by local government units through their Municipal Science and Technology Coordinators.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Provincial Director Karen Dañez disclosed that among the equipment is the advanced packaging technology the agency provided to the provincial government of Tarlac.

“It has printed more than 6,000 packaging labels for our micro, small, and medium enterprises,” Dañez said.

Some of the municipalities seeing improvement in their production include Pura, Victoria and Moncada.

With science and technology intervention, Pura is now capable of producing its Chichacorn at approximately 200 packs per month.

Victoria likewise generates veggie bread for its out-of-school youth in four barangays namely San Agustin, Balayang, Canarem and Bacolong.

For Moncada, new flavors of sweet potato ice cream such as ube, cheese, pandan, and chocolate are created with the sweet potato ice cream equipment they received.

Dañez said Project MIST will continue in the coming years since improvements were observed to those that were initially implemented which benefitted various communities.

“We are now working on the approval of the second batch of proposals particularly in the municipalities of Camiling, Sta. Ignacia, and Capas,” Dañez disclosed.

Project MIST is a collaborative effort of DOST, provincial government of Tarlac, Tarlac State University and Philippine Information Agency.

It is a registered trademark under the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
