CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales and leading academicians are expected to lead the symposium focusing on historic Bacolor town at the Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trade (DHVCAT) on September 12.
Entitled “Mibangun ya ing Baculud” (Bacolor will rise), the whole-day program will start at 9:00 a.m. with the opening remarks from Joel Mallari of the Katatagan Inc.(KI). The KI organized the event in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd).
Gonzales will discuss the Bacolor Bill, a multi-milion peso rehabilitation project for the town badly damaged by disaster wrought by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991.
The first speaker is Lord Francis Musni, consultant of the San Agustin Convent in Intramuros, Manila. He will talk about the “Villa de Bacolor and the Augustinian Legacy.”
Dr. Lino Dizon, director of the Center for Tarlaqueno Studies (CTS) of the Tarlac State University (TSU), will discuss the “Bacolor bilang sentru ning amlat Pilipinas (1762-1764).”
Michael Raymon Panglinan will set the record straight and tackle the “settling the Dispute on the Kapampangan Romanized Ortography.”
Dr. Jean Christophe Gaillard of the UP Diliman Department of Geography will talk about “the territorial implications of the Mt. Pinatubo disaster for some Kapampangan communities.” He will concentrate on Bacolor.
Mallari will expound on “Finding Bacolor’s Heritage and Cultural Markers.”
DHVCAT President Dr. Enrique Baking and the resource speakers will open the exhibit entitled “Arteng Baculud” in the middle of the symposium.
Organizers said the other speakers include Eler Delor Reyes of DHVCAT, Joel Regala of the Holy Angel University (HAU) College of Arts, Sciences and Education and members of the KI – Arnel Garcia, Frank Guinto, Virgilio Calilung and Charlene Manese.
