BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) has inaugurated the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center – Newborn Screening Continuity Clinic (BGHMC-NBSCC) in Balanga City, marking a significant milestone in improving newborn healthcare services in the country.
The facility is the 34th NBSCC established nationwide, the fourth in Central Luzon, and the first fully dedicated, facility-integrated NBSCC in the Philippines.

The clinic offers specialized, long-term care for newborns diagnosed with certain disorders, ensuring continuous access to treatment in Bataan and nearby provinces.
The DOH extended its gratitude to its partners and called on stakeholders to work together in building a healthier future for every Filipino child.
National Scientist Carmencita Padilla, a pioneer of the national newborn screening program, emphasized the importance of strengthening early intervention systems and improving follow-up rates for screened children.
“The recall rate must be improved. Let us ensure no child is left behind in our care. Turn positive screens into positive outcomes. Let Bataan be the model,” Padilla said.
The launch of the BGHMC-NBSCC supports the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly for children.
It reflects President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s 2024 State of the Nation Address commitment to expand access to healthcare and specialized services for those with lifelong health conditions.
Moreover, the initiative reinforces the goals of the Philippine Health Facility Development Plan, which aims to modernize and broaden health infrastructure, especially in underserved and geographically isolated areas. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
