The Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD) commenced the second round of Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio Campaign last 14 September 2020.
The campaign aims to stop the transmission of the poliovirus type 2 outbreak by giving doses of Monovalent Oral Poliovirus Type 2 (mOPV2) to all children aged 0-59 months old, regardless of immunization status.
As of 19 September 2020, the DOH CLCHD recorded a total of 882, 055 children vaccinated with mOPV2, equivalent to 65.48 % of the target population.
The second round of the SPKP in Central Luzon aims to immunize at least 95% coverage, targeting 1,347,005 children.
Strict observance of minimum health standards is being implemented by all health workers. Such infection prevention control measures include wearing of face masks, use of alcohol based hand-rubs between children, temperature checks, and physical distancing are strictly done during house-to-house vaccinations.
Polio is a highly contagious disease transmitted through the fecal-oral route. It is caused by the poliovirus and may result in life-long paralysis and even death. Unlike COVID-19, Polio has a vaccine which is free, safe, and effective. There is no cure for polio. It can only be prevented with multiple doses of polio vaccines through routine immunizations.
DOH CLCHD urges all parents and caregivers of children under five years old to take part in the second round of SPKP Campaign. Have their children, including those with private physicians or pediatricians, vaccinated with oral polio vaccine by health workers.
The DOH is working hand-in-hand with all its health partners to ensure a healthy future for all Filipino children. Participation and cooperation of everyone is needed in order to attain a high coverage for the second round of the SPKP campaign.
