APALIT, Pampanga – Sen. Lito and Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) General Manager Mark Lapid distributed some 3,000 packs of relief goods to flood victims in at least eight towns in Pampanga yesterday.
Lapid visited the wake of the 14 victims of landslide in Barangay San Juan Bano, Arayat just before heading to Barangay Sucad, Apalit where he distributed relief goods to some 500 families.
In an interview, Lapid said he had distributed relief goods to flood victims in the past 15 years.
‘”This is not campaigning yet. It’s my duty as senator to visit and help people all over the country,” said Lapid in the dialect.
He disclosed that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Manila had helped him prepare for the relief goods for residents of Arayat, Apalit, Macabebe, Masantol, Sto. Tomas, Minalin, Sasmuan, Guagua and Lubao.
“We will help as much as we can in our own little way,” added Lapid.
Asked to comment about the assistance rendered by Gov. Eddie Panlilio to flood victims, Lapid said “I don’t know his moves and I just mine myself.”
Lapid’s convoy was delayed by residents mostly markets wanting to touch and speak with the first-term senator.
“If Lapid is the one arriving, we will really go out and mob him,” said residents in the dialect.
“We are for Lapid no matter what they say about him. He is our hero who gets out his way to help us especially in hard times,” they said. The elder Lapid vowed to run for governor in 2010.
