DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – This only land-locked town in Bataan celebrated its fiesta Thursday dubbed as “Tubig Festival” using big hoses of firetrucks in damping water to hundreds of cheering people along the streets after the 9:00 a.m. mass.
Mayor Joel Payumo, along with his wife and children, led the celebration in honor of the town’s patron saint St. John de Baptist.
Participants in the merry-making shouted “tubig, tubig” asking for more water to wet them while dancing and waving some leaves from trees.
On Wednesday afternoon, the day before the festival, a colorful long parade participated by representatives from almost all sectors marked the bisperas of the Tubig festival.
The presence of Kapuso stars Riza Cenon, Stef Prescut and Prince Stefan added more color to the 146th Araw ng Dinalupihan. They joined the parade held around the poblacion area.
“Sa mga taga-Bataan, maraming salamat po sa pagsuporta ninyo sa GMA 7 at sana lagi niyo akong suportahan,” Cenon said. She stars in GMA’s new drama series “Langit sa Piling Mo” as “missing sister” of Heart Evangelista.
“Marami po kayong dapat abangan sa aming teleserye kaya manood po kayo,” she urged televiewers. She was practically mobbed by shrieking fans as she rode an open but roofed low van.
Payumo joined the crowd who filled the streets and the town plaza in watching the civic-military parade led by police officers and members of the Philippine Army.
Brass bands, drum and lyre corps led by children majorettes from some public elementary schools and street dancers also performed special numbers.
The relaxed “singing and dancing pig”, a tiger and a python from the float of the Zoobic Safari also wowed many spectators.
Carabaos pulling carts and horses in tiburin portrayed that Dinalupihan is an agricultural area despite its being a booming commercial district. Many agencies of government, banks, food chains and other big establishments joined the motorcade.
