CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — Central Luzon has the highest number of Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) passers among all regions in 2023.

During the 10th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director Anthony Nuyda revealed that last year, a total of 84 local government units (LGUs) were conferred with SGLG.

This is equivalent to 64 percent of all LGUs in Central Luzon.

Nuyda mentioned that the region has also achieved the highest number of SGLG passers in 2022, marking two consecutive years of success.

“This year, we are looking at possibly 110 [LGUs]. That’s the potential passers this year. Hopefully, after deliberation and validation, that will be the number that passes. That is already 80 percent of the LGUs in the region,” he highlighted.

SGLG is DILG’s program that aims to enhance the honest and efficient performance of local government functions in various aspects critical to the promotion and growth of LGUs.

To qualify for this award, LGUs must comply with the conditions covering 10 governance areas outlined in the Republic Act No. 11292, also known as the SGLG Act of 2018.

These areas include financial administration; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity programs; safety, peace and order; and business-friendliness and competitiveness.

Also, environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; programs for sustainable education; health compliance and responsiveness; and youth development are included.

Nuyda affirmed that DILG will continue to help and promote excellence in all LGUs.

“Although we, in Central Luzon, hold the highest number of SGLG passers, we believe that excellence in local governance should be felt by every citizen in our region,” he emphasized.

As such, DILG continues to implement programs and mechanisms to promote development and peace and order in every community in Central Luzon. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
