STO. TOMAS, Pampanga – Expansion of facilities and new courses are mulled for the Don Honorio Ventura State University-Sto. Tomas (DSTC) campus in Barangay Moras Dela Paz here.
This was disclosed during the recent courtesy call of DHSVU president Enrique G. Baking to Mayor Johnny A. Sambo. Baking was accompanied by DSTC director Jovita G. Rivera and Jeffrey M. Gomez, DSTC faculty association president.
Baking said the DSTC “is very promising” since it is very near the City of San Fernando, and this required new venue or expansion of facilities to accommodate future courses such as in nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, physical therapy and medical allied courses to be offered at the DHVSU main campus in Bacolor, as well as DSTC.
Presently, DSTC has only existing 12 classrooms housing 2,200 students enrolled in four programs: BS Information Technology, Bachelor of Elementary Education, BS Business Administration, and BS Hotel Management. The campus is also seasonally inundated with floodwaters.
Baking said a two- or three-storey building can house the additional students. Sambo responded that construction of a three-storey building in the open space fronting the senior high school annex building of the San Matias National High School which is adjacent to the DSTC is ideal location of the said expansion.
For funding purposes, the mayor said he would make representations with 4th District Rep. Anna York B. Sagum.
Baking shared that they are awaiting fund approval under the RA 11781 (An Act Converting the Extension Campuses of the Don Honorio Ventura State University located in the Municipalities of Sto. Tomas, Candaba, Apalit, Porac, Lubao, Mexico, Sta. Rita, Floridablanca, Guagua, and Sasmuan, All in the Province of Pampanga, into Regular Campuses of the DHVSU and Appropriating Funds Therefor)
He added that once the expansion is realized, courses in law and criminology and even masteral degree in public administration will be offered at the DSTC. Punto News Team/PR
