CABANATUAN CITY – Floods brought by Typhoon Luis have rendered portions of roads in several Nueva Ecija towns impassable, a disaster official said.
Sections of the national road in Sitio Baterya, Barangay Calabasa, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija were closed to traffic due to sand and huge pieces of rocks brought by rampaging water, according to Interior and Local Government Director Abraham Pascua, cochair of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Detour bridges in Nueva Ecija-Pangasinan Road and Lupao-Munoz Road were washed out by raging flood waters, he added. Engineering officials, he said, were working double time to make these roads serviceable soon, Pascua said.
In Cabanatuan City, Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara asked all village officials to coordinate in order to prevent injuries even as water in rivers and creeks started to rise on Monday. Vergara said all equipment and manpower were readied for response and possible rescue operations.
The Pantabangan Dam water level was at 190.36 meters above sea level on Monday, still way below the comfortable level of 210 masl and the spilling level of 221masl.
