NEW NORMAL LEARNING MODALITIES. Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago presents the learning modalities of the City of San Fernando under the Learning Continuity Plan of the Department of Education during an online press conference of the DepEd on September 9, 2020.
The Department of Education (DepEd) recognized the learning modalities of the City of San Fernando for the school year 2020-2021 during the agency’s press conference held on September 9, 2020.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones personally shared her commendation for the efforts of Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago and the DepEd Schools Division Office-San Fernando in formulating and implementing learning modalities for the current school year in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.
“Magandang example na napakinggan ko ay iyong ginagawa ng San Fernando dahil lahat ng modalities ginagamit nila, mula sa online hanggang sa paggamit nila sa radyo at telebisyon,” said Briones in her opening speech.
The conference, entitled “Handang Isip, Handa Bukas,” is a weekly activity hosted by DepEd which aims to raise awareness of the agency’s preparations for the opening of classes.
Apart from this, the agency also highlighted the local government units (LGUs) around the country with best contributions in their respective schools division offices for the education continuity amidst the pandemic.
Mayor Santiago represented the City of San Fernando in the conference where he cited that even at the height of the pandemic the City Government, under the Special Education Fund, allotted a total of P71,295,760 for the purchase of several devices for teachers and for the production of learning modules.
“Ang pagkakaroon natin ng ganitong pondo para sa Special Education Fund ay dahil na rin sa maayos nating pagsasagawa ng COVID-19 response sa pamamagitan ng pagtalima sa minimum health standards na nagbunga upang mas mapalakas natin ang lokal na ekonomiya dahil ito ang nagbibigay pondo sa ating SEF,” Santiago explained.
Included in Santiago’s presentation was the implementation of a blended learning mode, where modular instructions and television-based instructions are produced and provided for the Fernandino learners, through printed materials and television and radio programs in several local media stations.
It was revealed that the division has attained a 100-percent delivery of modules using detailed lesson plans (DLPs) or the Self-Instructional Packets or SIPacks, produced by its own teachers.
Moreover, the division, with the help of its partner schools, produces several programs, including “FernanDino Kids TV,” “Fernandino Teens TV,” “Fernandino Senior High Live,” “SFESial TV,” and “Kwentong Fernandino Kids at Teens, Aral sa Radyo” which were also presented during the conference.
Dr. Imelda Macaspac, City Schools Division Superintendent, said that the allotted fund helped the division attain its learning continuity plan, which is being delivered ahead of the formal school opening on October 5.
“Napakahalaga ng inilaan na pondo ng Lokal na Pamahalaan dahil ang ating strategic plans ay short term, medium term, at long term. Hindi tayo makakapunta sa mga ganoong plano kung wala ang suporta ang LGU dahil kailangan natin ng mga heavy duty machines, equipment, budget for airtime, at pati na ang institutionalization ng e-learning,” Macaspac said.
She also extended her gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching personnel for their untiring efforts in making the plans possible.
“Dapat po nating i-attribute ito sa lahat ng teachers natin, mga non-teaching personnel po natin na sila po talaga ang nagpupuyat, nagpapagal para magawa po lahat ng ating learning modalities,” she said.
Apart from that of San Fernando, the best practices of the LGUs of Pasig, Aurora, Luna in Isabela, Pililla in Rizal, and Sarangani were also featured during the conference.
