LIMAY, Bataan — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued Wednesday a cease and desist order against the operation of an open dumpsite at Sitio Mamala in Barangay San Francisco de Asis 1.
DENR officials led by Undersecretary Benny Antiporda inspected the dumpsite which he claimed to be illegal since it was already shutdown in 2015.
Antiporda said that wastes from the seven-hectare dumpsite, which is connected to a nearby river, contribute to the pollution of Manila Bay.
“Our main objective here is that no matter how much we clean Manila Bay, it will all be in vain if we allow something like these [dumpsites] to let trash go straightforward [to Manila Bay],” the official furthered.
“Actually it’s not just the solid waste that we are concerned about but also the leachate from the creek heading towards the river,” he added. – PIA 3
